New Name, Same Blog: Hogtowne Quill

Wikipedia

As some of you may know, we ran a contest for selecting a new name for the WAG blog. And the winning name – Hogtowne Quill – came from WAG member Andy Adkins. Thanks, Andy!

What’s in a name?

Well, in this case, there’s a hint of both the local past and the history of writing.

Gainesville used to be known as Hogtown ( the “e” added evokes other historical usages such as Jamestowne, Virginia). A settlement of Seminoles near what is now Westside Park sold hogs, and thus nearby White settlers dubbed the area “Hogtown.”

So now we have a nice, new name. And we need YOU to write articles for Hogtowne Quill.

Build up your writing creds and cite your work using this name, just as you would cite an article in Bacopa or any other literary publication.

We need articles on any aspect of writing. Write anywhere from 500 to 1000 words on topics of your choice.  Include links to thought-provoking books, podcasts, and articles, etc. Personal stories about your writing life are welcome, too, as long as those stories teach readers something new and concrete.

See the Guidelines for more information about submitting articles.

[Editor’s note: WAG would love to see articles on any and all topics of interest to writers. Please send your ideas or finished pieces to Cynthia D. Bertelsen at BlogEditor@writersalliance.org for consideration. Remember: these posts are more than just posts, for they are actual articles and can be cited in your CV/résumé in the same way you would a short story, essay, or any other writing credit you may possess.]

    Hogtowne Quill—what a great name.
I once read that Gainesville was only a tiny town when the Florida Legislature designated it as the home of the University of Florida they’d just funded.
Now, with support of the Writers Alliance, it’s becoming known as a literary center.

Yes, thanks to the intrepid founders of WAG, and many others, Gainesville is indeed becoming a literary center!
