Political Science Professor to Speak on Politics

Dr. Sharon Austin, a professor of Political Science at the University of Florida, is to speak at the Matheson History Museum on March 14 about Black American political contributions.
This is the third lecture in “The Other Book” series, Part II. The series is helping fill gaps in our history that has been “white washed.”
Before schools were integrated, Black teachers taught from two books … the official book sanctioned by the segregated school boards, and “the other book,” teaching the truth about Black history.
Dr. Austin’s expertise includes African-American politics, mayoral elections, and women’s political behavior. She serves as an expert political analyst, and is frequently cited by national and international media outlets, including CNN, the New York Times, and The Washington Post.
She has written four books. Her most recent is Political Black Girl Magic:The Elections and Governance of Black Female Mayors, published by Temple University Press.
To register for this program, go to the Matheson Museum website. Registration is not required, but seating is limited, and registration helps us plan.
The lecture is free, but a suggested donation of $5.00 would be appreciated.
Free parking is available in the Museum’s parking lot, next door at the Law Offices of Attorneys Folds and Walker, and the Alachua County Public Schools District Office.
