John Hemingway to Speak at Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Park
November 4, 2023, 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
On Saturday, November 4th, the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Park will host a Writer’s Talk with Ernest Hemingway’s grandson, John Hemingway, author of A Strange Tribe: A Family Memoir. The book is an intimate chronicle of the tumultuous relationship between John’s father Gregory Hemingway and grandfather Ernest.
The book tells the often harrowing story of surviving in the legendary clan—manic depression, drinking bouts, suicide, cross-dressing, and yes, enduring love, understanding, and forgiveness.
A translator and magazine writer, John Hemingway is also the author of three novels including Bacchanalia: A Pamplona Story, Murder in Key West 3, and most recently, Murder on the Florida Straits.
Meet the author at 1:30 p.m. and stay for his presentation at 2:00 p.m. The talk will be followed by questions and answers and a book signing.
This talk is made possible by the Friends of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Farm and the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park at Cross Creek, 18700 County Road, Cross Creek, Florida. Call 352-466-3672 for more information.
Admission to the talk is free with park admission.
