How to Turn a Play into a Movie

July 10, 2022, 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Join playwright Shamrock McShane and multi-talented artist Tom Miller on July 10 to learn how to turn a play into a movie. The program begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Millhopper branch library, 3145 NW 43rd Street, Gainesville, Florida.

McShane is the author of Seven Sides of Shakespeare, a play that became a movie at the hands of screenwriter Miller. Their talk will include a discussion of:

  •      – the inspiration for the play,
  •      – the software used to create the movie,
  •      – type of equipment used,
  •      – filming of the movie, and
  •      – how they entered and did so well in screenwriting contests.

McShane, who stars in the film, is a Shakespearean-trained actor whose credits include the award for Best Supporting Actor at the 2016 Atlanta Black Theatre Festival.

With 30 years of service as a public school teacher and a passion for the arts, McShane is also the author of Hall of Fools, a revealing look at education in the U.S.; and his narration of Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is available as an audiobook.
