Bob Dekle to Speak About Ted Bundy Trial

George “Bob” Dekle, who served as the prosecuting attorney in the 1980 trial of serial killer Ted Bundy, will be our guest speaker on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the Millhopper Branch of the Alachua County Library.

Dekle has lectured extensively nationwide and is the author of numerous books on trial advocacy and legal history. His most recent book, The East River Ripper: The Mysterious 1891 Murder of Old Shakespeare(True Crime History) was published in 2021. His book about the Bundy case, The Last Murder: The Investigation, Prosecution, and Execution of Ted Bundy was published in 2011.

Ted Bundy confessed to 30 homicides that occurred between 1974 and 1978. His last known victim was 12-year-old Kimberly Leach, who was murdered in Lake City, Florida, 47 miles north of Gainesville. His trial lasted a month and a half.

Dekle served for two years as an assistant public defender and thirty years as a prosecutor, handling dozens of homicide cases. He also served as a Legal Skills Professor at Levin College of Law, University of Florida, from 2006 through June 2016.

His many books include Six Capsules: The Gilded Age Murder of Helen Potts, which was awarded a gold medal by the Florida Authors and Publishers Association and silver medals by the Independent Publishers Association Book Awards and Royal Palm Literary Awards of the Florida Writers Association.

Prairie Defender: The Murder Trials of Abraham Lincoln won a scholarship award from the Illinois Historical Society and gold and silver medals from the Florida Authors and Publishers Association. Dekle has also coauthored books, including The Lindbergh Kidnapping Case: A Critique of the Trial of Bruno Richard Hauptmann.
